Hobbes26, I have only heard a few people refer to suspension geometry, and they were speaker designers.

Your busted.

I myself am having a real hard time understanding the merits of increasing internal damping of a speaker cone...

I fail to see how lowering the frequency the cone resonants at (while increasing amplitude of vibration) of the cone helps anything...

Haunz, re-read the post.

No where does it say that increasing cone mass increases amplitude.

I posted a question about concetric modes a while back, this is what cone damping helps with the most.

Re-read the post.

I'm not sure I understand what you're getting at here. Busted on what?

Well folks, it's time for an update.

I'd just like to review what I predicted back in November:

1.) An updated Utopia line with a new motor structure.

2.) Diaphram core desity and thickness will be improved.

3.) A new tweeter diaphram material. (hmmm what could that be?)

4.) Sealed cross overs. If you are going to take the time to do something really right, you'd better make sure nobody is reverse engineering it. This is very common in high end home audio.

5.) A possible decrease in model selection. I'm thinking a couple of 2 ways, 2 woofer sizes, and an uprated tweeter option.

So, I started doing a bit of digging after someone posted some fantastic photos of the Focal both at CES. There was a product model # that I'd never seen before...and well...I just started digging from there. Here's what I found:

The Chinese have jumped the gun a bit, but I'm sure we'll see something like this on the Focal America site.

I'm going to buy a Lotto ticket...
