2 connections from 1 terminal cup? is it possible?
hey all... ok, i did the unthinkable. i bought a prefab box! i got it online from FutureShop (there isnt one in my area). just a regular bass slammer single 12" slot ported tuned to 38Hz. should put me a bit more on the SQL side of things (didnt like my sub tuned low)..
anyway here is my question. i forgot to check how many terminal cups were on it before i bought it. my single 12" sub is a DVC, the terminal cup accepts both bare wire and banana plugs, and my mono amp has 2 pos outputs and 2 neg outputs (already paralleled inside the amp). could i possibly connect both positives to the positive side of the cup and both negatives to the negative side? maybe use bare wire for 2 and 2 banana plug for the other 2? or would this mess up ohm load, etc? i should have checked to see if there were 2 sets but i dont want to have to modify it, is there anything i can do with only 1 terminal cup??
thanks

NO NO NO DO NOT DRILL MORE HOLES!
Parallel the 2 voice coils INSIDE the box, and connect them together to back of the terminal cup. You only need to run 1 wire from the amp + to the speaker terminal +, and from the amp - to the speaker terminal -

LOL!
i'm such a newb man. good plan, i like that one. a friend informed me that even though my mono amp has 2 positive and 2 negative outputs, that doesnt mean i have to use them.... so yeah if i paralleled the coils INSIDE the box like you say, the amp will still see the 2ohm load even by only using 1 set of outputs, thanks man!!! im glad i didnt go out and start drilling holes:S
i'm learning, bit by bit lol.
thanks for the reply Zoomer

one thing to check: On many cheap boxes, the terminal cup is just inserted in with no caulking and screwed. You may want to unscrew it and see if it comes out, Once it is out you can solder the speaker wires on the back, instead of relying on the normal quick connects. Make em long enough so that you can connect them to the sub while it is nicely out of the box.
Do not over heat as a hot soldering gun will easily melt the plastic.
Then add some caulk and screw in.
Carefull not to slip and punch a hole in the sub surround when screwing in. And make sure it is nicely alligned with the logo the direction you want!..
