I'm thinking of installing an amp in my car. I was looking at the fuse panel and i've got a 20 amp space marked "sunroof" but the car doesnt have one. Any chance I could use this to feed a new amp?
Its a 200 watt amp, according to the specs it draws 15a when running at its rated power. I dont know very much about car electrical. It was just a thought. Thanks

You need to run a power wire right from the battery dont forget to fuse it, but i think you should seek some help from someone that has experience, friend? if not find a shop

Trouble brewing here, I can smell it lol... Get a friend to help who's done this before and been around car audio a while... or if that's not possible bite the bullet and take it to a shop.

In a nutshell you really should run the power wire to the battery and install an inline fuse close to the battery also. Make sure you slide the power wire through a grommet in the firewall or serious problems will result w/o using a grommet.

Also make sure you amp ground is secured to a solid mounting point close to the amp... scrape or file off the paint to expose the metal to make a good connection... proper grounding is very important. After the ground connection is made spray the area with paint or dialectric silicone sparay to keep the metal and thus your connection from corroding. Always follow manufacturer's instructions on mounting the amp for thermal efficiency, ie do not mount it upside down...and do not drill holes into metal to mount the amp directly, and never ever drill through the metal floor in the trunk...unless you want to aerate your gas tank Lol

its a good idea if you want to turn your car into a flamed out metal carcas. its a bad idea because suer it says 20 amps but its probably fed by like 20 gauge wire which is good for a sunroof but bad for am amplifier. cause if you hooked it up and hammered on the amp well the draw would go up and that poor little 20 gauge wire would melt and burn your car to the ground. so if you got deep pockets and want to buy a new car hook it up that way. if you like your car and want to have good sound go buy atleast an 8 gauge power kit. stinger, PG, Rockford, Lighting and many others all make great kits. go buy one and save yourself some headaches.

Thank You!
I assumed that the circuit would not be suitable for a continous draw. Since the sunroof would not be running constantly.
