The car Fozz built!!!
I'm going to stick with the L1 Pro. Like all the Hybrid tweeters, it has crazy amounts of detail, more then I've heard from most if not all other tweeters. I hope its a good match to the L4.
Can't wait to get mine!
Well I took most of last weekend off. I bought a fish tank so I worked on that instead. Here are a few pics of today's progress. It took a few tries, but I managed to get the L4 mid range speakers aimed the way I like them (listening tests). I made mounting rings from 2024-t3 aluminum (aircraft aluminum) and attached them to the molds I made earlier on. The pods were then covered with fleece and hardened.
Leaving the pods as they are would work, but with just hardened fleece, they are less then ideal as an enclosure. A good enclosure should be free from resonances. To do this I normally use fishing weights that you can buy just about anywhere. But this time around I decided to use wheel weights (Mutt gave me the idea). These work really well. The photo's below show the first of several layers of weights. I added stranded fiberglass first and then added the weights. Even after the fist layer, the pod got really heavy.
While I waited for the pods to dry I started my new kick panel build. I'm using the Hybrid L8 which is an 8.5" speaker acquired through Sound Solutions. This will be a tight squeeze, but if it works, I should have mid bass up the wazoo! The first pic shows what my kick panel looked like two years ago, the second and third are what they look like today. I don't recommend cutting up your car, but these are the length I will go for better sound.
