A friend of mine wants me to install a deck in his GMC mini van ...the stock mouning plate is missing where the deck used to be.
We were talking about going to the scrap yard to get a replacement and came up with the idea of using a piece of clear plexi instead of the stock plate (lights included).
What is the best tool for cutting the plexi so that there are no mistakes?
I have to cut the plexi to fit the stock hole as well as the hole for mounting the deck and drilling into the sides of the plexi for led's.

 

if you have a router then that would be your best bet. cut out a piece of MDF to fit perfectly, then use some double sided tape, and duplicate it with a flush trim bit on the plexi...

well I don't have a router....I do however have a jig saw and a dremell...can these be used?

 

ok make a set of jigs #1 the deck hole #2outside jig

cut the hole for the router, dremel and a file then cut the mouning plate with the #1st hole cut in it .then double sided tape so the hole is where you like it ,cut pice ,heat your cut sides so they look good ,drill your holes out but go slow when drilling and then try ot install your deck

the heat will give you a pro look
if you do not heat it .when your led is on it will look like s###!

ok that seems like enuff info for now I should be able to pull this off (I hope) lol

 

just remember, be really gentle... go slow, make small cuts, and try it, make another cut and try it, then get some 40 grit sandpaper to do the really fine fitting.

 

just a quick note, if using a dremel to cut the plexi, go slow to be precise, just not to slow or you will melt the plexi make a slopy cut.

you can use a belt sander too but do not melt the pice !
