deck won't turn on after install

i'm installing a new deck and i've run into some problems. i'm hardwiring my deck straight to the car, since all the wires were cut when my last deck was stolen (they cut the harness right out). anyway, i matched all the wires from my car to the deck, grounded it, etc. and when i turned it on (turned the car to ACC), the deck lit up for about 2 seconds, then shut off. i turned the car off, then back to ACC, and it did it again. then it altogether wouldn't turn on no matter what i did.

if it helps, the deck is a JVC KD-R300, BNIB, and the car is a 96 civic. so i doubt there's a blown fuse or anything. help guys??

Where did you ground the deck to?

I think its a fuse. I assume you have checked them. on the back of the deck and in the fuse box???? you can test the deck yourself by hooking the red and yellow to the battery under the hood and connecting the black to ground. if the deck work under the hood then there's something wrong with the wires in the dash.I bet its just a fuse..... when maggots jack stereos they often cut all the wires at the same time and when you cut the positive and negative at the same time you burn fuses..... check your fuses.

antenna is hooked up, fuses changed... the deck will only light up for about 3 seconds before going dark again. the only time it lights up is if i press the "DISP" button or the eject button, and the light only stays on for 3 seconds. is the deck a dud?

It's your acc 12v wire.
Test it under the hood or on an old battery like I said. Used a fuse tho!!!!!!
Without the acc wire the deck will turn on still just to eject CDs and display time.
Test it dude!!!

^^ I disagree
It sounds like your 12v constant.
For many pieces of car audio, it will turn on when it receives power from 12 v acc, but if the 12v constant isn't there it can't sustain itself and turns back off. Almost all of my amps work this way. They will turn on with only the remote and ground, but they wouldn't produce output, or go into protect mode after a second.

It sounds like your car is doing the same. It fires up from the ACC line, but when it searches for the constant 12v, it either can't find it, or the voltage level isn't high enough (most won't operate with less than 10 volts) and shuts itself off again.

Check your 12 v constant that needs to go straight to the battery (through fuses of course), and check it with a multimeter.
