Hey guys, I'm running a BA Inhuman 15" in a 3.6 cu ft box tuned to 30hz. Now the port is only 16 sq in. I know that is way too small for the sub with 1200 watts. I'm just wondering, would it make a noticeable difference in output if I increase the port area to 40 sq in.? Would it be worth the time and effort? People have been telling me they heard a set ups like mine (JBL 1200.1, Inhuman 15) and it slammed hard, mine doesn't seem to be hittin as hard as it should. Thanks guys.

Bigger port means 3 noticeable things.

The bigger the port, the less restriction there is to the air therefor louder.

The bigger the port, the less port noise there is therefor better souding.

The bigger the port, the bigger the WOW factor.

Yeah thats a good rule of thumb.

This coming from the guy with a port that is bigger than the SD of both my subs 342 to be exact

Thanks guys, SD by the way is the surface area of the cone. I've heard alot of things on how far the end of a port should be from any wall in the box. Is there any rule of thumb on this?

Kinda. It just when your port in near a side it trows the tunning off making it lower. I would say 3" should be good.
