newbie questions
ok here's the situation, im picking up an alpine 7995 deck in a couple of days, and im gonna be upgrading from my stock system... but this unit doesnt have a pre-amp, which means im gonna have to pick up a new amp also...so i got a few questions (i dont know much about car audio so they might be dumb questions)
1. should i get a 4 channel amp, 1 channel to feed each speaker? or will a 2 channel amp work and have the fronts on one channel and the rears on another channel? (also what amp would you guys suggest? pref. not too pricey)
2. if the amp is too powerful do i run a risk of blowing the speakers? im not too sure how much they can handle being 14 year old stock speakers..
3. how complicated is the install? is it as simple as just: running wires from each speaker to the amp, running a wire from the headunit to the amp, and running power feed wires to the head unit and amp from the battery? if thats all thats involved i dont think ill have too much of a problem doing it myself, otherwise ill have to get it done at a professional place.
thanks for any help,
seb

1. I would get a 4 channel amp, for flexibility. If you get a 2 channel you will have to use one channel for the front and rear left, and the channel for front and rear right. You will lose the ability to fade from front to back.
2. After you get this deck and amp you're eventually going to want to replace the speakers. They affect the SQ of a system more than any other component. Somewhere around 35-50x4 RMS is pretty much a good choice. It is better to have more power and not use it than need more power and not have it though. If you add subs and take the bass out of the rest of the speakers they will also be able to handle more power so take that into account.
3. I would maybe leave it to a professional if you have never taken part in an install before. Install accounts for at least 80% of the sound of the system, wiring one speaker out of phase could mean that you spend all that money and it will sound worse than factory.
