speaker install help

hey guys, just wondering if I could get some help. A friend of mine has some speakers he wanted me to install for him, but I we were having some difficulty getting the trim panels on the front doors off. Then we went to the rears and the speakers are much bigger than the factory ones, but we came up with solution to that. Back to the panels. Can anyone give me some hints or tips or even just explain how to get the panel off without breaking any clips or anything?

the car is an 03 chevy malibu. I already know the car is a bitch to work with. when I did the sub we first did that thing where you tap into the rear speakers and run that to a converter then run rcas, then we finally got the harness, after like 100 bucks for it, and that thing was a monster. now we've got to cut sheet metal or build a rigging for the rear speakers, but these front ones we can't get too because neither of us wants to damage the trim. please help, I'm hoping to get it done by monday. thanks

one thing i learned with door panels is that you cant be scared, but at the same time, you cant be carless. I believe the make a clip removale tool that makes it easy to take clips off without breaking them.

as far as the rear speakers, when you say they are 'much bigger than factory', why not just get the same size as the factory ones and return the other one

yeah i tried a clip remover but to no avail. AllData says to use tool J something, which i think is a GM tool. i know i have something to use in its place, but we were really just worried something would break. as for the rear speakers, as it stands now he's still debating whether or not to keep them, but he just got a job at 2001 audio/video so he might get some from there instead. the issue isn't really the size of the speaker per say, its the basket of the speaker, its way too big for for the factory hole for the speaker.

on a side note, are you gonna make it to the KJohn show on the 15th?

just make trim rings to fit the speaker to the door!
as for the door panel, i have no experiance with the malibu but i do have a chevy and they like to hide bolts behind small removable panels.. like where the my lock mechanism is. if i pop this lock panel out there is a bolt behind..
if you want to know for sure google for malibu forums for the full info needed..

haha thanks nghtrdr and Slaughter, East York coming through in the clutch. I'm trying to set up a day where a bunch of people meet at the McDonalds at Pape and Cosburn to show off their systems, but honestly knowing that you're from EY that list has amounted to 3 lol

oh crap, just started reading that page...man I hate this car
