This is a reverse to most of the questions asked here but I'm putting the stock deck back into my 99 cavalier so I can sell it. I have the stock wiring harness that I have reattached back to the wires and then into the back of the deck. The trouble is when I turn on the car and turn on the radio, the clock shows up for about 3 seconds and then the screen goes blank. If I click the power button, the clock will show up again for 3 seconds and then go blank. Other than that nothing works, no radio or sound. Do I have a power wire hooked up wrong or on the wrong wire?

sounds to me you have some wires criss crossed here's some info for you:

Left front Speaker + : Tan ............. Right front Speaker + : Dark Green
Left front Speaker - : Grey ............ Right front Speaker - : Light Green

Left rear speaker + : Brown ........... Right rear Speaker + : Dark Blue
Left rear Speakeer - : Yellow .......... Right rear Speaker - : Light Blue

12 volts: orange
Ignition: yellow
Ground: black
Dimmer: grey
be sure to test the yellow wires as there are 2 of these, one is a speaker lead the other is your switched power lead, same applies with the grey wires one is a speaker lead the other is a power source when the parklights are on.

 

If that deck has the anti-theft feature then the security code will have to be rentered or the deck will never work.If you do not know the code you may need to go to a dealer to have the radio restored.

 

i wouldnt put it back in. im currently selling my cavalier z24 99 on kijiji and everyone wants an aftermarket receiver...
