i didn`t think it was an old issue, to me the teachings of richard clark is new, or its the first i`ve heard of it, but regardless i don`t really care. i will continue to waste money on high end products.

on other forums, this issue is the cats meow, and if you disagree, watch out.

mayhem,

Do a search on this forum about the sound of amps. You'll find I have a lot to say about it, as I do about the sound of wire as well.

Dukk's comment STILL is pretty funny to me.

Best of luck on the subject.

i have a couple friends in the electrioncs field. one of them says that regardless of the quailty of an amps internal components, it will not effect the quality of sound, also he says that moving from so called "high end", to "cheap cables", will also not effect sq. and that if there is a difference, the human ear will not be able to distingish it. my other friend is the opinion of the exact opposite. but this guy considers himself an "audiophile", and has spent 3000 grand on a pair of rca`s for his home amplifier.

my take on this is "you be the judge". but if you want to get into a heated discussion over this topic, take a browse at car stereo.com. you`ll find it very interesting, as well as annoying. i had the richard clark amp challenge rammed down my throat many a time, thats why i moved to this forum, and after all, its canadian.

^ Well put
Some say yes there is a difference, others say no there is not. Yet others say 'it depends'.

I believe that 95% of the people out there would not be able to tell the difference between 95% of the amps out there 95% of the time.
I would pretty much agree with that. This argument was old in the 1980's BTW and it is still unresolved.
the teachings of richard clark is new, or its the first i`ve heard of it,
Julian Hirsch (SP?) was saying all amps, wires, tuners etc. sound the same in the 70's. in the 60’s there wasn’t too much on this since amp and speaker distortion was higher. John Atkinson of Stereophile takes detailed measurements of equipment (amps, CD players etc.) under test and has not found a correlation between the sound heard by the reviewers and measurements. The testing usually identifies a poor design or a malfunctioning product. So there is either a placebo effect on subjective testing, or a placebo effect with ABX, or we are measuring the wrong things.
I have a Zapco because it looks cool!
