My only guess is, it's gotta be software related. Must have just had a buggy version of XP on it. Period. And since HP's restore themselves from a partition saved on the harddrive. It is probably just re-installing the same buggy version everytime I erase it and re-install it.

It could be processor...ram...
No clue how they trouble shooted it..if they just used software to scan the pc then it is possible something is wrong phisically with some of the hardware but that the testing software just doesnt pick it up.

^^^ Well, they claim that it was disassembled and inspected as well. They also said they ran diagnostics on all the hardware. I don't know what that consists of but, they ran the thing and tested it for 24 hours straight. I would think they would have found a hardware problem. But, like you said you never know.

Hell , all I can say is I hope you have better luck with them, than I have had at Future Shop with my Sony VAIO PC.

3 months of haggling on the phone, just to find out I had been talking with the US repair depot and that I needed to talk with the depot in Surrey.

Got the PC back with a new harddrive and the tower case is broken. I give up on Future Shop.

I would keep you letter short and to the point. I personally hate to read long letters like that once in awhile ad I am sure those guys hate it more.

State what happened briefly and what you want to accomplish in the letter. Include a way to get ahold of you so the problem can be fixed right away.

Include a carbon copy to the BBB and anyone else that may be able to help or investigate the problem. Something like the old TV show David Horowitz`s Consumer Files, where they investigate complaints on your behalf and 90% of the time get a resolution to the problem much quicker and more to your satisfaction than you would be able to. What company would want thier name mentioned on Television in a bad manner?

Again.......good luck

Sorry about your problems. What most people with computers don't understand is that 95% of the time the problem lies in some software/files they downloaded. The other hing to remember is that Best Buy(as much as I hate them) didn't build the computer or install the software. Being that you just bought it I would take it in with all the packaging and ask for an exchange to a different brand. They will be less likely to give you a refund as it takes money out of their pockets. If you request an exchange you are still getting a new computer and they are losing little to no money and should be willing to do it.
Also,
threats to report the situation to the Better business Bureau are pointless. Look at who are members and fund the BBB for proof of why.

As long as you conduct yourself in a calm mannner and sternly request a replacement/excahnage without flying of the handle, you should have no problems.

I think you should try this, see if a buddy has a P4 whatever try his Cpu in your tower and your's in his, test it out see what happens if nothing locks up seems to be fine then move on to the ram. Then if it still works fine then it's leading to your motherboard essentially then the fun part begins what part of the Mobo is screwed up.... Or just call Hp direct yourself explain every step you took about trying new ram/cpu didn't change anything Hp might just send you a replacement mobo to install give that a shot, still keeps freezin then it's def leading to the software. ha OR borrow your friends Xp to see if it gives you the same buggy issues if not then you know ur copy of Xp in the partition is fudged up.
