Anyone know how to find out what a company's name is from a business number?
Basically, my boss is telling us all that we're just 'moving' ... however I noticed on my paycheque that the "blah blah blah Ltd." has been whited out (yes, hi-tech whiteout) and replaced with "2044708 on Ltd.", I can only imagine why he did that because we will know the company that 2044708 refers to.
I am, frankly, not too happy with my boss being a loser and not telling us anything. SOOO, if someone could tell me what that number is, or where I might find out what 2044708 stands for, I would appreciate it.

Once a company is incorporated, it is assigned a number from the province if provincially registered or from the federal government id registered at that level. A business can maintain its legal name as the numbered company but operate under a trade name. Alternatively, they can go to a registries office and have the legal name changed to whatever they choose, assuming its not taken.
As for calling CRA and asking for information about a specific company, they may not provide you with any information as you are not an authorized contact. I am a chartered accountant and have dealth with CRA numerous times on corporate matters of clients. Unless you have authorization, they are not supposed to give you any information. Normally they will ask how they can help you. You will state what you are looking for and they will then ask for your authorization if it is considered confidential information.
