So I have been talking to my longtime family friend Donna who I saty with when I am up in E-town and she has a problem.
(Mini-Steve you'll remember this)

Last time I was up there she had a problem where a voltage spike or something had fried the ethernet card and wasnt allowing her Shaw internet to come through. So I put in another card for her,it powered up as it should, but then when I went to install the drivers, the CD rom wasnt working. So I explained to her the problem and she tells me its never worked. So I go to Mini-Steve's house(thanks again)and search the web for drivers for both to download on to a 3.5"floppy and get things going. No drivers found!

So since then her and her roommate have supposedly put in a CD-Burner and are now looking to me to get it running...From Calgary.

As any of you surely know, trying to explain things computer related to someone who doesnt understand computer lingo jus doesnt work.

So I am wondering if someone would be willing to go over to her house and help her out in my place.I dont forsee it being a huge ordeal(fingers crossed).

Donna doesnt have a huge amount of money either, but if I know here, she will find a way to show her gratitude as best as she can.

If someone here can help her, please email me @ 8trackboy@telus.net or PM me or reply here...

THanks in advance for your help and generosity!

Is donna hot?

Since people seem to randomly think i can fix their computers lately, i may be able to help out (i have a rough schedule though). Is it just installing the drivers that is needed to be done? (or so your thinking)

wait wait....ok after re-reading that, it seems they didn't have a cdrom so thus you couldn't install the drivers, but since then, you've put the drivers on a floppy as well, they've gotten another cd-rom which should work! Shouldn't be that hard to solve that issue. You should be able to run them thru that over the phone - especially if the NIC came with a cd and they have a cd-rom - it's probably a wizard that will take them thru the process step by step.

But if they need more help, depending on where they live i may be able to help out. What OS is she running?

So much for the idea of helping a fellow man/woman in need..

Besides,Chris,I never said it would be free...I did say that she would likely show her gratitude in the best way she can(ie:cook supper, toss a couple bucks in that persons way(if she has it)

I wish people would stop being so worried about how much money they can make and start thinking about how much good they can do for the world...The worlds going to hell in hand basket and it seems that all people can be concerned about is what or how much money is it for them.... Smarten up people!!!!

</font>
Nothing is free, patience sure as hell isn't free, and you know what, it costs $60 IF THAT to buy a book to read thats like 20 pages long that shows you basics of how to use the computer. A LOT cheaper than goin to school or payin a tech to upgrade it. And if she can't afford it in general why would she even bother with a cd burner? Windows 98 If your used to xp and a decent speed cpu its SO HARD to work on someone's computer that's THAT old.... lol Sorry man sometimes it just cant be done, and sometimes its how people make a living.

And yes i did read the rest of your post i was speaking generally. My dad runs a computer business and I've seen what he's gone through with customers wanting their dinosaur computers fixed up for free, sorry but sometimes you just can't and the stuff he gets and does isn't free. Personally I feel if you dunno how to use a computer and your not willing to learn, don't bother. There are cheaper ways than school.

you guys gotta simmer down. It's simply a friend asking for help. People ask for help all the time. I turn to you people for advice with stereo stuff. If i couldn't figure out how to wire a set of speakers up...surely someone on here would help me.

Or with vehicles. Same difference. He's just helping out a friend. Some friends still do favors for other friends. although in this case like with wiring up a set of speakers, i think if they have a cd-rom it could all be easily done over the phone

I hate greedy bastards who think it's all about the cash. My buddy is/was like that he bought a bunch of car parts and was tryin to sell me a fuel pressure regulator for 70$.. turns out he paid like 10-15$ when it's other people sure charge them whatever, but when it's your best friend and you try ripping them off that's not. I offter to help people out all the time wether it be there car stereo, brakes on there car, anything in general sometimes I get $$ or something back sometimes not, just gives me something to do better then doing nothing at all.

That's a little different of a situation than the initial one created by this post
