Do you know someone that doesn't know when to end or minimize there hobby?

i dont know what u mean by 'prepare yourself for the future' i know some well established men in their middle age with families and children who have hobbys and are crazy about them. what future should they be preparing themselves for? retirment?
I dont know if u familiar with the Higherarchy of Needs that every person goes through, so here it is:
most ppl do not go through all of it and never reach the top. most ppl's needs stop at Social Desire, such as yourself. However some ppl move on to satisfy their higher needs (sometimes at the expense of other things like u mentioned).
So.... a hobby is what helps alot of individual reach and satisfy their higher needs, satisfying those needs meaning pushing your skills/abilities to the limit and beyond. It gives an individual great sense of accomplishment and self actualization.
Example of someone like that is Bill Gates, Michael Shcumaher, Michael Jordan, Alma Gates......well u get the idea. A person finds something they are good at and keeps pushing the envelope constantly.
The feeling is priceless, if u have never experianced it (and most ppl dont) i can truelly say that u've missed out on one of life's best things.

He has just given you all great information! I seem to be stuck on Self Esteem in my life right now. My hobbies I have, but I feel like I can't pursue them at all.
Psychology class comes in handy from time to time.

Wow another thing i remember from last year lol Maslow's Hierarchy (*sp) of needs
Life is goin around in circles for me and I have a hell of a lot of hobbies, not just one. But I know I dont wanna be living at home when I'm done College at least not for more than a year. It's time to get out in life experience things live it up. Not mooch of parents and drive them insane lol

I don't buy into Maslow's theory as 100% accurate. A good starting point but not a bench mark.
Take an extreme case. A person is so self absorbed in their hobby that they do not realize the world is passing them buy. Does that mean they are involved in self-realization? NO! And you can't used Maslow's graph to defend that either. Maslow says the only way that you can move up to the next level is to find stability and security in the previous ones. If a person has devoted so much time to a hobby that they have no friends, that person has obviously not moved into the area of social desire. Then to say that that person is acheiving self realization before social desire is bogus.
That chart applies to healthy, well differentiated people. However, in our world today there are many ill-adapted, narcistic people who need psychological help before the mid-upper levels of that chart will be helpful to them. What Chizzer is getting at is a deeper problem; a person who can't see that there is more to the world than themselves.
These people see the world in terms of what interests them and them only. Much like a 3 year old only cares about their world and their needs. There is no interest in an other person's feelings, no interest in other people's desires, needs etc. Just what pertains to them. Classic Narcism. That is a huge sociological problem.

^^^^Yeah ESTABLIISHED BEING THE KEY WORD!
As for your chart, I would see myself more at Safety and Stability by the way. With a family on the way I have my "stablilty" being my secure income and I dont push the envelope like I did when younger.

Money have nothing to do with it. Alma Gates makes no Millions of dollars. I only named those ppl b/c u would know who they are.
Michael Jordan won like what? 3 more rings after he retired and came back? now THATS self actualization!!
Capitalization has nothing to do with it, it's your inner psychological needs that drive you. I VERY heavy into spl but i dont really enjoy it that much, still i do it b/c it's my way of getting my self realization need fullfilled and gives me the chance to push my skills beyond the limits.
Also u are not at safety and stability needs, u are at Social needs, otherwise u wouldnt have a wife and kids.
maltesechicken is right, this theory is not 100%, i could get much deeper into the whole needs/wants/desires thing but there would be no point. One thing Maslow didnt account for is the fact that not everyone moves through the pyramid at same pace and its possible to move up and down.
Chizzer there is a good chance that u will move up higher when u are much older, just like those retired guys dirving corvettes and other super fast cars that are way too sporty for their age.
