i had something like this happen to me, got a 5 disc dvd changer and it would not play dvd's half the time... took it back and they tried it once and it worked and so they said hey nothing wrong with it, but since i was there in person i bitched and complained and finally got them to try it again and luckly it didnt work that time...

so Hardcore Rock Superstar's microwaving the HD is basically the bitching and complaining he cant do in person

if its westren digital they just send you a new one they dont ushally even test them, if you send a second one back then they do. least thats my exp.

I had a Maxtor that wasn't working right, the guy had me try one thing over the phone which didn't help and he shipped one out that second. When I got the box I sent mine in. They sent me one before they even verified if mine was really broken or not.

yea sometimes you luck out like that i guess.... when my power supply was acting funny in my Emachines i phoned the tech guy he had me do a couple tests to verify that yes my power supply was shot and then he had me give him some information and he sent me a new power supply... then afterwards told me that there policy just changed and that i dont have to send the old one back... i was impressed with that.

A little off topic but same idea with warranty -

At one time a buddy had a problem witha cable modem - kept dropping connection..
Cable company come out and test - it was fine

a week later another call to cable company - it kept dropping again
Cable company come out and test - it was fine

next week it still kept dropping connection.. so he unhooked the cable modem - popped the hood on his truck and plugged in the coil wire to the coax input on the modem.. a quick turn of the key and voila.. the cable modem now wouldn't turn on, smoke show too.. Another call to the cable company - tech came out, said wow i never seen one that wouldn't turn on - gave him a 3com cable modem - been working great ever since.
