I know for a fact I could get a handgun within a week for under $1000. When I used to go to the bars a lot I could probably have gotten one same day.

^how long ago was that? isn't that just for the background check these days ?
My buddy just got his restricted permit and he said it took just over 6mths to get (and first you need a PAL or whatever, right?) Then ya need another permit to transport...
He also needed to be a member at a licensed range for so long and said he had to take a few tests that he had to pay for...
Ive heard of people having to get lawyers involved in this buisness as well... $$$$
Edit: geeze it's gotta be at least $100 to even register your handgun... ?

Non-restricted course/test = $100
Restricted course/test = $100
PAL for restricted = $85
Trigger lock = $20
Locking carry case = $100
Decent gun safe = $300
Membership at a gun club = $100-250
Registration fee for a new handgun = Not sure? Can't find info on website.
I guess $1000 is a bit high. $150 is way too low unless you're going to challenge the test and not include any of the mandatory extra expenses our legislation requires.
I've never heard/read of a 28 day waiting period either. The main delay is applying for your PAL which can take months.
ATT (Auth. To Transport) is free, but can take from an hour to weeks.

You don't need a gun safe AND a trigger lock, you can choose one or the other.
Also accroding to http://www.yrfirearms.com/Cost.htm , It's $75 for the courses and exams required for a restricted PAL
Waiting periods to get the PAL are ATLEAST 28 days.

11. An individual may transport a restricted firearm only if
(a) it is unloaded;
(b) it is rendered inoperable by means of a secure locking device;
(c) it is in a locked container that is made of an opaque material and is of such strength, construction and nature that it cannot readily be broken open or into or accidentally opened during transportation; and
(d) if it is in a container described in paragraph (c) that is in an unattended vehicle,
To take it anywhere you need a trigger lock/cable lock of some sort.
Yeah, you found a $75 course for restricted, but their non-restricted course is $135.
I've never heard of someone getting their PAL in 28 days. Maybe it's the minimum, but mine took around 6 weeks and was the fastest I've heard of from anyone I know.
The point is that we already have substantial gun control. It's far more expensive and time consuming to obtain a handgun legally than it is illegally. How is more gun control going to reduce crime? Criminals generally aren't known for obeying inconvient laws.

I can go get a handgun right now for like $700. FOr a legit gun, it would takes weeks and alot more money. I don't care if they ban handguns. Just pointless if they do imo.
I am taking their non-restricted this weekend so it should be fun. Hopefully they don't ban semi-auto's
