how do u support your canadian economy.

Just wondering how some people support their canadian econmy . These days imo we need to buy as much north american product as possible.
Personally I'd pay extra for something made in canada v.s made elsewhere. I personally will never buy an import vehicle in the near future. My dads out of a job in the automotive industry so I feel obligated.
I also shop mostly at canadian tire aswell as canadian tire gas stations or petro canada (although I think that's american owned.) I stay away from Home Depot and Wallmart aswell.

What do u do?

ALOT of the imports are made in canada, whereas a good number of "domestics" are made overseas in asia, as well as mexico. so there goes that one!!..

I always push buying ocally in your area. Nevermind canadian economics, small towns that have a bog box open 2 towns over get hit super hard. It can ruin local economies. As much as I live in canada, I much more immediately live in Kahnwake, so I always try to spend my money in my community. This has much more of a visible impact on economics than thinking globally.

With the world being a global village now, people forgot to look in their own backyard. Spend locally. Create local jobs.

Some parts now are shipped overseas. But some are still made in canada. I know because my dad had a big part in designing and makeing them.

I work for a Tier 3 automotive supplier. I was laid off for the first 3 weeks of the year. Laid off for the month of December in '07. So I know how important it is for the "Big 3" do to well.

In my opinion, those companies are in the position they're in due to bad financial decisions that were made when they were raking in the cash. Before the imports started becoming more economical, with better build quality, GM et al were making a lot of money. These organizations didn't spend enough on upgrading their equipment, or finding ways to be more efficient, or improving their quality systems. They just gave themselves bonuses, and forked over money to the unions for outrageous wages and benefits. In the meantime, Honda, Toyota, Nissan, and now Hyundai, have gradually spent what little profit they were earning into facets of their work that would allow them to compete. Now they're winning. It took too long for the "Big 3" to react, too long for them to take these guys seriously.

I've been to GM. It's sad. You'd think making $30 an hour would keep someone motivated. Nope. There's definitely a "that's not my job" mentality there. No help between departments.

Anyway, honestly don't think there's a whole lot we can do. How bout we stop traveling to the US for vacations? Canada is the largest country in the world, there's a lot to see here. Yet we flock south all the time. I'd much rather go west since I've never been.

Big Box stores are good for the local economy. They employ a hell of a lot more people than small hardware stores. Which means more people are making more money, that spend it somewhere else in the community.

Well I guess I am doing my part for our economy LOL. Just spent $900.00 at a local shop for new HU and subs. BTW if anyone is considering a Kenwood Excelon X-991 GET IT. This is a beautiful sounding unit. I have always been happy with KW products, but going from the bottom MP-208 to this is night and day difference. WOW, even clearer and way more detailed sound. Haven't played with T/A yet but big difference already. Sorry just had to rave about my new toy. LOL
