if u have a large dog
Responsibility is key, no doubt about that, but I think boominz24 missed a point with our tempermental little girl dog. She was an adoption from a bad environment and was bred from a bloodline with bad temperment. This cannot be corrected and has nothing to do with how the dog was brought up. She was properly trained, socialized, exposed, fed etc. by us but none of this matters when the genetics are the determining and dominant factor. She is 100% the opposite of our other dog. The only times that they were ever together was when she was a small puppy and our 120lb male could dish out whatever he had to to keep her in line.
Malamutes are a pack dog and their pack is their immediate family. A pack has a pecking order and she feels that she is the alpha in the pack. This is the dog that goes at the front of a dogsled for those that are not aware, the dog that is most dominant. This is also the reason why she is kept 100% contained at all times, dog fights are nasty to break up.
Here is a link to see part of what we do in our spare time and how commited we are to responsible dog ownership.

"Don't back peddle from a dog. it can sense your fear. If a dog is charging at you barking and showing teeth just kick it right in the mouth. I don't care how big or mean the dog is it will wimper and yelp and then run away."
if u honestly thing ur fast enuff to position yourself to kick an object thats moving at u at a very high rate of speed in a VERY threatening manor, ur sadly mistaken man, i used to think the same way, when it happens and u have literally 1-2 seconds thats not enuff time to get into any kinda defensive stance and actually use it....
"Kick my dog and your a$$ is mine,""Rest assured though, I see you lay the boots to my dog, I'll deal with you even worse than you dealing with my dog."
i agree, if im walkin down the street and see your dog layin on your lawn sleepin and i kick it, u can come beat me, but if im delivering something u ordered and trying to put it in a safe place where a neighbor kid isnt gonna see it and take it, and your dog attacks me, u better believe imma defend myself, as i said before, had the dog gotten a hold of me, i would have been grabbing my knife, and i wouldnt have stopped swinging/slashin till the place looked like a scene from texas chainsaw massacre
"just because a dog is running at you and barking does not mean that it is in attack mode"
when this happens, u can tell, theres a BIG difference between a dog thats excited and curious to see who u are and is comming to greet u and one whos REAL pissed ur in his space
and the rottie i ran into was the latter.
see now what i love is the same people who think "well if my dog comes at u u werent supposed to be there," while im trying to put a package at say their back door, so that its outta sight, and weather, are the same ones who would phone in a complaint if i left their package out on their front step and it got rained on or stolen
ive talked to my bosses about the incident, they were surprised i actually made it out of the yard in one piece, ive also filed a complain with animal services, to have them at least make the owner aware of what happened,
i dont want the dog taken from the home for no reason, but i would rather that happen then hear on the news about a mauling, because i didnt report it
so as i said in the original post, responsible dog owners are great, but if u know ur expecting a package, keep the dog in the house, ive refused to even attempt deliveries because of dogs in yards acting in even a slightly aggressive manor, i dont care what it is, no ones package is worth me gettin bit, and killing the dog over, plain and simple

MR2NR: I commend you on what you are doing. This world needs more people like your self to take a pro-active apporach to helping animals that can and will be misused.
As for this whole discusion, I agree that agressive dogs should be on a leash, espeicially if you are expecting a vistor.
Responsibility lies soley on the owner, not the anilmal.
And if I ever saw someone laying the boots to either of my dogs....it would be damm tough to not do the same to them. Sure in self defence I would do the same....but I would not feel very good about myself If I had to hit a dog.

Yes I have a large dog. A red nose pit X lab. A little short of 00 pounds.
If he dont lnow you, your in a heapa trouble. If someone from the family is there you are safe especially if you throw him a biscuit or a cat or something like that.
Our fence is locked, not just a slide bolt but actuall lock on it, there is a doorbell on the gate post and a phone number to call just in case.
He has only bit one person and he lunged at the dog. His fault, was caught on security camera so no denying it. I think I have gone about as far as I can in keeping other people safe at my place.
Neighbor kids come in and play with him all the time. Never a problem. This is the same dog that broke out the window of my truck to save my *** from a beating. Some of you may remember the post awhile back on that one.
I feel that anyone not using the precautions I have in place had better get damn fast or climb the tree. Phoenix hasnt learned to do that yet.
