insurance fraud or opportunist??

buddy of mine moved to ontario to work after we got out of high school .......Sask insurance tells him he has 90 days to transfer his plates after he moves ......
he gets in a real bad accident one night about 2 months later ............
he then finds out ontario law says he must transfer his plates within 30 days .......so sak uses that as an excuse not to cover him and he's stuck still making payments on a car he no longer has cause it was a right off and he had to pay for the plastic sugery to reconstuct his ear cause it was not life saving(elective surgury) and therefore health insurance doesn't cover it

Dodge is right .. When I moved to Alberta from Sask I carried my Sask plates for 8 months, even though I was told by SGI and Alberta Motor Vehicles I had 90 days *OR* until I established a permanent residence (meaning buy a house, but I rent). Sure this saved me some money at the time, but it was a huge risk because had I been in an accident I would have had effectively ZERO insurance coverage (liability/property/etc). I just don't think it is worth it .. but it sure is tempting! I switched to Alberta plates a month ago and they only cost me $400 a year more than Sask with better coverage (lower deductible/higher liability).

Maybe compared to Ontario, but compared to most other provinces ICBC is right up there for rates. I am paying almost double what I used to pay in Sask, and I have a clean record so I get pretty much full discount.
Oh and yes in BC we have to deal with the same crap. I was told my SGI that I had 90 days to swap the plates over and BC requires them to be swaped with in 30 days. Also BC requires you get your actuall drivers license changed with in 30 days as well.

insurance companies are suffereing didn't you know? It may have been just alberta, but i'm fairly sure it was all accross canada, the insurance companies made a total of $2.1 billion!
Don't tell anyone, but i insure my vehicle in BC and i've been living in alberta. I was going to school out here...which is how it all started. But since, i've renewed it, and since i had to drive a province over to do it, i told the insurance people i was in th eprocess of moving back, since if you're going to school ya gotta show records etc. So although i'm in a high bracket it's still over $100 cheaper/month for full coverage in BC vs PLPD in AB.
To put this to the test, just after i got a letter about htem possibly revolking my license if i get anymore tickets, i got pulled over for speeding. Johnny cop asked for my insurance and reg yada yada....so i went to pull it out, noticed i had the 2004 sticker sitting in my glove box insteada on the plate, and that i probably also gave him my old insurance by accident.
Either way, he came back, didn't give me a ticket or question my alberta license and bc plates, or why i was in ab. Just said slow it down and have a good night.
