i think most people jsut sign up because they have one or two questions, and after that they dont have any other reason to check the forum every day, and eventually probly never come back.

Now that the previous owner has moved on, SQ is no longer the focus, and the board has lost all appeal for me. The other thing I don't understand is why so many of the main contributers were banned?

Who is the new owner? I still dont know anything about him/them or even their name? The old owner was well known and respected in the competetion world, and ran a business that supports/sponsers some of the top SQ competition cars. That meant something to me and I was proud of it, but now what? From what I read when the board was sold off, the new owners purchased this site as a business opertunity, and that was their main focus. That alone took the fun out of the board for me, and I decided to give up my Moderator/Brewmister status because I didn't like the way things were headed. I also liked the old look much better.

Oh well, still have some good memories...

Your post brought it all to mind -- the thing I liked about the board was how many various people I met through the board -- almost as many as I have being in the industry 12 years -- some are people I already knew but lost touch with (Defro13) or guys I had some stuff in common with but our paths never crossed (Dukk) -- Sure I was in some toss ups, but there was also a lot of interesting posts about audio theory and I found the debates interesting. I still find myself involved, but I do miss some of the "oldtimers"

I had no idea who the previous owner is..... but i feel the current owner is doing a good job, and i do like the new layout.

I think one of the big thing stopping people from posting as much as may want to (not that it's really a bad thing) if that I see most of the questions being asked, are run of the mill question... Will this amp work with this sub(s), can I wire this amp this way, what speakers fit in vehicle X, etc, etc...

I think because these types of questions don't really lend themselves to the sought after debate, that people just get bored with the run of the mill questions, and don't bother adding to the thread...

I for one would love to see more discussions, and debate going on connected with the audio scene, weather they be the latest shop build up, or even tech articles.. it seems other audio sites have their 'residents' that post their findings with certain equipment, or install techniques, and the like.

I can also understand a new member, or even a not so new member, not wanting to post a reply to a question asked, or to add to a ongoing thread, because he/she is afraid of being told to screw off because their opinions don't go with the grain of the thread... That's not something only found here, but none the less.

I think when it comes down to it, there isn't any information on this site, that I couldn't find elsewhere, so it's up to the site to attract members back to the site.

I too miss the old look, and feel of CCA, hopefully we can bring back that atmosphere this corner of the internet once had.

Mark

EDIT: I'd just like to add, that it seemed only months ago that people were complaining that there were too many guests just browsing, and not bothering to register, and now they are registering, but not posting enough... what's next?

A number of months ago there was a pretty long post about the usefullness of capacitors... I tried to make it an objective discussion that included facts, measuremnts, numbers...But no one had a clue about anyoff this. I had created my own simulation of a cap, battery, alternator, amp etc an made my own conclusions...
I was going to share that but I just did not bother.
Why? because every time I asked for or gave a fact backed up by a measurement I got treated like .

Many people here make up their mind about something just ask a question to confirm it. If you have a different opinion, you get on by them.

So unless the poster seems to want to learn something new, or at least has made a minute effort at researching his topic a bit, I dont bother any more.
Questons like "will this fit in my car" I dont bother with anymore because there are a gazilion sites that have that info...Or how big a sub box...Go to the damn manufacturer's site.. I am not a search engine!

There was a topic recently power needs... and I suggested that they had enough power already and should concentrate on other things in the system like speaker position, sound deadening, etc. all they replied was something like "never too much power" So I just gave up.

I was also thinking of offering to the owners a section on learning about basic elecricity knowledge critical for car audio, because that was a key factor lacking in so many posts. But realized that even if I backed up claims (capacitor, power amp draw etc) with numbers, people would still not care, still called me ...

***the offer still stands*** (lets see if the site owners read the posts)

On another thread someone asked how much it cost to repair an amp..I said transistors were cheap..labor is expensive. Someone quickly accused me of never repairing an amp before and told me that they had to buy a pack of 50 transistor to get qty pricing...I pointed them to a canadian web site where they could buy quy 1 for about a buck... I Just dont need this kind of abuse...

If I want abuse.. I will go to a FemDom bondage site...

I did post a note on being polite on the general board...maybe more members can read it.

You want your own tech section? .... It's actually something that has been discussed by the mods in the past. We just weren't sure there weren't enough technical people here to participate. I'll bug the admin and get it done.

You're right... you don't need that kind of abuse. But there are ******** on every board. We mods try and do the best we can to keep them in line but we also need to keep some interesting debate alive.

And it's a great post! ... I'm going to clean it up and sticky it after people have had a chance to put in their $.02.

YORK sucks, I discovered what the meaning of being "Yorked" means. The best thing about York has been my girlsfriend thus far. :P
