Talking

I have been here long enough to have finally made it to "Mackenzie" status, but it took so long because I only posted when I had something to say.....hehehe

I have seen a few things posted that raised an eyebrow or two, and I'm sure there have been lots of PMs between members that are best left there.....but.....

A few things I have noticed over the years here and at other boards:

1. The same basic questions will get asked at least once a week, and depending on how people's moods are that day, the question will get answered. The only thing that changes is the number of cranky posts you have to wade thru till the answer pops up......:la

2. New members never seem to take the time to get familiar with the board structure and learn how to use whatever built-in search functions(in particular) are offered by that board. Many of the repeat posts could be avoided this way, and bad first impressions of the boards could be avoided.

3. There are a lot of very knowledgeable people on this forum that I have seen on other boards, and they are still doing their best to help the "newbies" with anything they can. I would also like to see more in-depth technical answers to certain questions here, and rather than sinking into namecalling and such, let anyone who can back up what they say, say their piece.

We're not dealing with life and death surgical procedures or putting a man on the moon here folks, and everytime one of the posts deteriorates that way, a little bit of info that might have helped one of the lurkers with a related issue doesn't get posted.

AFAIK, it's not required for everyone to agree on anything here. My results installing a certain piece of equipment in a certain vehicle in a certain way gets a certain set of results, and it's no guarantee that anyone else can duplicate them. If they have any merit at all, they can serve as an example of what someone else might be able to achieve doing the same thing, and if they try it and get a different result, it does not mean their installation is inferior, it means something has changed. It's the process of figuring out what has changed and how to improve on those results the next time around that is the fundamental reason places like this even exist.

My personal rule is that if you wouldn't say it to someone's face, or if you can't at least offer something in the way of proof for the position you have taken, don't bother posting it....

Sorry for the long post, but polite behavior never goes out of style, and it will always be remembered long after the issue being discussed has faded from people's memories.

My $.02 worth.

I think because these types of questions don't really lend themselves to the sought after debate, that people just get bored with the run of the mill questions, and don't bother adding to the thread...

I for one would love to see more discussions, and debate going on connected with the audio scene, weather they be the latest shop build up, or even tech articles.. it seems other audio sites have their 'residents' that post their findings with certain equipment, or install techniques, and the like.

yeah, It is getting pretty boring......

specially looking at posts asking about how to hook up an basic amp to a HU etc.

I don't think there is anything you could say that was 'stupid'. If your asking an honest question, and would only like an honest answer, then I see nothing wrong with that.

if you need somthing cleared up, and can't find it with a simple search of the board, or even google for that matter, then that's what everyone is here for...

I jusr never understood why people post such mindless questions that could be answered by using the search function, or hitting google. Personally, If there's something I would like to find out, I'd rather search and find out in the next few minutes (give or take) rather than posting a question about it, to wait a few hours, or more to get the answer...

regards, Mark
