Ok, so you know of a few people on welfare that own a pitbull.

That means that most owners are??

That's a fairly ignorant comment to make.

-Government supervised breedings, and placing. Some type of federal license to enforce it, that must be produced just like a drivers license whenever you are asked for it.

-Extrememly stiff penalties for breaking these dog laws. ex. If you can't produce your paperwork....heavy fines, jail terms.

-add other breeds as well. ex. Rots, Shepards, Presas, Cane Corsos, the list will be huge.

I would have no problems with proving that I am a responsible dog owner whenever a police officer asks for it.

--------------------------------------------------

Lemme tell a little story about a chick I went to high school with. She got married bought a ****er Spaniel, got pregnant, & had their first child. Now she set the new-born on the bed and left the room for just a minute. When she returned the Spaniel had ripped the poor childs face apart!

I can say without a shadow of a doubt that any bully breed dog that I have owned would not have done that(they would have tip-toed over if anything (lol), but you still wouldn't catch me leaving my child alone with my dogs unsupervised.

I thought Canadians were better than this.
We are....... this is proof of that.

Ontario has taken a step. Whether they are right or wrong, they have taken a step. The other provinces are sitting back and waiting for the results. The Ontario government was elected by the majority. The people you elected thought that this was the only way to deal with the situation. Reminder folks, we are the government.

Pit Bull attacks compared to other dog attacks are especially brutal. Why do people want a pit bull? Not being a dog owner, I have no clue as to why... therefore the question.

In fact, I don't have any pets whatsoever. I respect animals too much to see them caged up. besides, with three teenaged kids on my hands, I have nothing left for buying pet food........ just expensive car audio equipment - hee hee.

I understand seeing eye dogs and border collies and so forth. Even guard dogs. And, I understand the relationships and benefits pets bring to the elderly and people in need of affection.

Why doesn't the police use pit bulls as attack dogs? Because they are too unpredictable and too primeval *for lack of better word*?

We *humans* breed these dogs. Banning them is going to do what? Wipe out the breed WE created?

Fining and jailing people who own these dogs? Yeah, we have a hard enough time putting murderers and rapists behind bars.....

For every person who wants the ban lifted, there are probably ten times the amount of people who want the ban imposed across the country.

I'm sorry, but I'm one of those people who applaud the ban. If a person moved into my neighbourhood with a pit bull or other potentially viscious dog, my life would change. I would take extreme caution with my kids and any of their friends playing in the yard. BTW, my neighbourhood is very nice - it has very, very strict rules. I don't think the above scenario would ever happen. Which brings me to the other comment someone else made here in this thread. Is there a social-economic factor with owners of pit bulls? Another myth or misperception? Junkyard dog labeling?

I would like to say, this thread is a very good one - don't close it just yet. There are people on both sides well represented here. I wish more would participate. Coming up with ideas and educating each other with the pros and cons. As long as it doesn't get out of hand with name calling and pissing matches.

That's why we need a government that we voted in to start sticking up for breeds we as humans created instead of banning them. Isn't that what being Canadian is about, doing THE RIGHT THING??

my point is that usually people on welfare don't get fined the enforcment people just ignore them because they know its a lost cause
they say oh you can't do this but beyond that they do nothing
the people who let there dog **** and **** in a hallway were just told oh please clean it up
they would leave the dog tied up at the end of the hallway half the day
it was sickening the stench
nobody would do anything
how do you get a person on welfare to pay a fine
it dosn't happen thats my point
its enough to make you bang your head on the wall and go wtf is up with this

Well, I think the reason for that is because the pitbull has a reputation as a fighting dog.
Owners breed them and train them to fight other dogs, illegally, I might add.....and so, police find the dog fights, it goes on the news....then one of these "fighting" dogs attacks someone and it becomes blown out of proportion.

Oh, because the cops found these dogs fighting eachother, they MUST all be vicious and while there's apparently more attacks by rotties, the bullys get more news coverage because they are known to people now as vicious.

I've had rotties....none of them would attack if YOU bit them first and all three of my rotties were over 100 pounds....my biggest was 155 and all of them were PURE muscle, I let my cousins ride on thier backs when they were little.....I'd have no problem having ANYONE around those dogs...were they still alive.
