Yeah so I have only read this last page - I can assume what the other 4 are full of if the thread keeps getting locked...
WE bought a dog a year ago. I had a 6 year old girl and 3 year old boy at the time. We bought a Lab/Shep cross based on two things: 1)My good friend and neighbor has had 4 Lab crosses since I have known him and they have all been excellent family dogs and 2) I have never heard of a Lab ever attacking anyone 'by accident'.
Hell, my Basset was more aggressive
Now I'm not against Bullies or Rotties or any breed but with my kids I dunno.... I bought a Lab...

Quote from another board.....
"I took Rocco to Petco Saturday for his bath and as usual when he was done I lead him through the store so he could pick out some treats. Last time we were there he was about 6 months old and obviously a puppy. We kept getting stopped by people that wanted to love on him. Not this time tho. He's 100 pounds now but is still the same loveable puppy he was then. He loves everyone, especially children. First thing I notice as we're walking is the looks we're getting. Then I see Moms pulling their children close to them as they pass. Rocco justs looks up at me cause he doesnt understand why the kids won't talk to him. Everything became clear when a little girl, about 10 years old, walked up to us and asked if she could pet him. I made Rocco sit and she proceeded to pet him. Next thing I know I hear a woman screaming, yes screaming, get away from that pitbull. Now Im looking around because Im afraid someones getting attacked, then i realize the dumb b**** is talking to us!! She grabs her daughter by the arm and gives me the most hateful look I've ever seen. She then proceeds to the front of the store to confront the manager about letting "those" types of dogs in a store where children are present. I was so shocked I was nearly in tears. The manager came up to me thinking my dog had snapped at the child or something and thankfully one of the employees told him what really happened. I couldn't even speak. Even as Im retelling this story Im shaking in anger. I know that theres some ignorant people out there that are prejudiced towards Pits but I've never seen this in person since I own a BULLDOG. I have a newfound respect for Pitbull owners if these are the people they deal with everday. Sad thing is Rocco didnt understand any of this. He unknowingly made things worse by growling at the woman. I tried to explain to the manager that he was trying to protect the little girl that was grabbed so roughly. Have any of you AB owners had a similar experience? i'd also like to hear from APBT owners on how they deal with it."

Yea, no kidding eh?
Peple did the same thing when I had my rotties.
I can understand not wanting your child to go pet a strange dog, that's just common sense, but when I'm standing right there telling the person it's ok, I take offense to that.

Farm?
Puppymill?

They have had 5 dogs in 10 years (one Shepherd) - how many have or do YOU own? You a farmer or puppymill?
Now who is making the assumptions?
Also - indeed I have heard of various Spaniels with poor temperments that have harmed children. My wife's grandparents have Jack Russells that I won't let near the kids either - they have offended before and would again.
Flipside - one of the kindest sucks I know happens to be a large male Rottie. The only danger he is to my kids is knocking them over.
Given the choice of a unknown CSpaniel or a Rottie walking towards my kids I have to admit I would be more on guard with the Rottie - soley because their sheer power would make it take me longer to kill it dead should there be a problem.
You've posted in the past about how Bullies are misunderstood and the target of some kind of canine witchhunt. Fact is, if there wasn't a problem there wouldn't be a problem. Yeah it's unfortunate that a breed you like also seems to be the favorites of, well let's say less than upstanding members of the community who aquire them because of their natural power and aggressiveness. You knew it going in though so it's your problem to deal with, not societies.
You aksed for the thread to be closed back on page two. You have now given me cause to.
