You can usually get away with it in Alberta, but try it in BC and you WILL get nailed. The rule is no tinting forward of the drivers shoulder, BC inspection rules and regs.

It's as easy as just being sensible. Weather conditions will affect how easy it is to see through a tinted window. If an officer can easily see who is in the vehicle (recognize a face and not just a person's outline) though the driver and passenger windows in the worst weather conditions you will be just fine 99% of the time. A light tint is not going to get you in any trouble (unless of course you're a dick and deserve to be pulled over for whatever reason).
Leave the windshield alone. If the sun bothers you then use the sun visors. That's what they're there for.

You could get a $110 fine or have to rip it off right there. Chances are you will never be pulled over for it, but if your speeding, etc. I've never been hassled in my Buick, Eclipse might be a different story seeing as cops are very selective.

I spray painted my back and rear(behind driver) windows with gloss black and have never been hassled for it (2 side mirrors so in bc it is legal) and have been pulled over once for going the speed limit in a park( dumb cop didn't know it was a park and wondered why I was going so slow) and he didn't say a word about the blacked out windows.
