The first time I got yanked for tint back in my younger, more argumentative days the cop told me unless I had a letter of permission from the Surgeon General of Canada to have tint on my vehicle for a medical condition, there isn't squat I could do about it. I'm red-haired and fair skin so I could perhaps maybe find a way to weazle something though but the fact is I am not allergic to the sun like I personally know some people to be. I know another redhead guy who is pretty white and has 5% tint on his truck and he carries a letter from his doctor saying he needs it or he'll burn. He knows its just a scam though to keep the tint. He doesn't burn THAT easy. It has worked for him before though when getting pulled over. But a cop could, if they want to, challenge him and he would need to take it to a higher level (like the Surgeon General) to beat the rap.

I no longer tint my front windows. I don't like having any reasons for a cop to pull me over. If I do get pulled over, I like knowing that I have nothing they can nail me on.

Perhaps they noticed the tint on your rear windows and wanted to find out more about you......you caught their attention for some reason, that is why you got pulled out. You despise police yet you would be the first person to run to them when someone or something happens to you. That same police officer that pulled you over to find out more about you might also be the same police officer that saves your life one day. Might just want to consider that before you go around despising someone who is doing their job.

Factory Tint

I asked my dad about this factory tint question because he's been working for car dealerships for the past 20 something years. He says that whatever the factory specs are for the vehicle is the maximum % of tint allowed. If the factory specs say it can be up to 35%, then that is the darkest the d/p windows can be. Also, most factory tint is not a film like you would buy at a tint shop. The tint is built into the glass, I think the effect is called 'smoked'.

Mmmm were do I start. First I did my share of window tinting in my day. Both flat glass ( homes and shops ) and automotive.

The letter of the law in Alberta it is Illegal to put any typ of film including clear on the pasenger and drivers glass. Top bit on winshild is ok untill the marks on the top corners. Flat glass is easyer than auto because it's much less sticky'er. If you get an fine just buck up an pay the $100 or so. If I was caught doing illegal tint my fine was in the thousands and with posible jail time waver or not. Granted worse case ect...

The spirit of the law is basicaly if an paser by can see in aka police then ok. Personaly if I desire to see in an car I can no matter how dark. Of couse painted wouldn't work. All of my personal vehicals do have tint on all windows. I wouldn't recomend darker than say 35%. My Explorer has 50% up front and I constaly get ignored by the police, probably because it not as flasy as say the Bryce wagon. Just don't give them any reson to look twice and they PROBABLY won't bother you. I would'nt go to say 5% on the back either because it another flag even though it LEGAL. I'd stick with 15 to 20%. My Mini's 20% all around and looks great and cut the heat and glare but getting to be a pain for daily driving at night.

As with back windows as with any. Let an pro do it and just pay them. I've spent many an evening just doing them, granted I did them in 1 piece and shrinked the film. It may cost you up front but the end result should satisfy you needs. And hey nobody works for free, we all have to eat and pay our bills.

Any way I know this is an old post but my 2 cents worth.
