"1996 Explorer xl, 4x4, beige with beige cloth int, a/c, all power options, Alpine cd/sub/amp, mint condition, towing package, 211k kms all put on by my mom, she drives to the interior cuz she is a fabric rep. This truck is mint, nothing wrong with it at all, all service done at Ford, new brakes, suspension. Do me a favour and buy it so i can finally get an SC

$7000 obo "

i'm at work so i can't do a whole lotta research on the web....can only visit certain websites....and the explorers weren't necessarily my vehicle of choice, just cause i hadn't heard much good stuff bout the older ones, and they were always nicknamed exploders. I dunno if anything changed with the newer ones or what they're like on gas or anything...but can anyone offer some insight for me?

thanks a bunch

(ps you guys all suck on a friday night...this board is dead, and it's killing me cause i'm stuck at work with nothin to do)

The trannies on the Exploders of the generation before were absolute crap. I haven't got a lot of info on how reliable the newer ones are.

The only problem I have known about has been the disk brake up front. Some of the vehicles go through them at an alarming rate.

Also, body/floor rust on those can be quite alarmingly awful.

Do a good check on that , especially UNDER the carpets and inside the wheel wells, etc...

Log onto www.bc4x4.com or www.funinbc.com and ask them.

Lots of Exploder owners on the bc4x4 site.
