MSCE is a waste of time and energy. I was an MSCE for NT4 and it didnt really help in anyway when it comes to true network administration. Learning SQL, some form of Unix(I would suggest FreeBSD) will take you farther with more pay than any MSCE cert will. Even taking the Redhat(which I hate) Linux Certification should put you in a better position. I speak from experience when I tell you this as I was MSCE, A+, CCNA certified. The only thing that helped me get to the career I am doing now is self learning ASM(assembly) as I work with microcontrollers(ARM7/9) and FPGA/CPLDs. But it is for network security and self learning Linux and FreeBSD by using it for over 5 years is what helped there. MSCE's are a dime a dozen and you are competing you will be really competing for jobs out there with other MSCE's for low pay. Find yourself a good niche market with the power of growth and train yourself to be the best in that field. That is my best recommendation for you
Rule number one, dont take a job strictly for the money.
I work for the Railways (CP Rail). Everyone assumes it is a great job, pays 70g a year, and life is sweet.
It's terrible, easy work, but your on CALL 24/7, 365 days a year. Lots of 30+ hour days being awake, very hard on the body. Lots more to it.
BUT.....
Im now joining up with an electrical firm in order to get my ticket.
70g a year, to around 9$ starting
But its worth it to do something u enjoy, and dont HATE

Exactly Jeff .. key is find something you enjoy doing and then figure out a way to make money at it. Starting a business might be a good option, even if it doesn't work out you will learn a lot and meet people. Networking is huge, often it is who you know not what you know.. be patient and positive and things will work out!
