Fram = bad in my opinion. I read a web page where a guy bought a bunch of filters, cut them open and compared them. Fram was way nasty. The smallest amount of filter area, glued on carboard end caps that could easily become unglued with hot oil constantly around them, plastic check valves, etc. No thanks! I now use Wix filters (which are also Napa Gold BTW) or AC Delco, which fared decently well in the comparison. Purolator was alright, K&N and Mobil1 were very good. Quaker State, Motomaster and Pennzoil are all re-badged Fram filters.

ya, royal purple, it does as it says BUT its a 60 doller oil change, at least.

the only HP it frees up is parisitic. internal friction is redused. lots of guys use it in there tranny and rear end. longer between changes in thouse places.

I've been using fram too, and also heard there not very good, time for a switch I think.

i dont want to bash specific brands, but in reality the best oil and filter are from the car manufacturer. i've only used ac delco filters and gm goodwrench oil (5-30) in my truck, which is a 92 with almost 175,000 k's on it. i saw an engine course as well, and they did the filter disecting thing and believe it or not, some of the house brand filters, like napa, or motormaster types, actually had horse hair in them. additives and stuff are a slight scam as well, 1 or 2 drops of gear oil in some engine oil did the same thing as prolong, or duralube products. as for synthetic, on new engines(but not for break-in period) is good. just don't use it in any engine that has any leaks of any kind. since synthetic oil does all the crosslinking and ability to cling to itself, it will all blow out the leak. my buddie and i were on our way to edmonton one day and he just did a $50-60 iol change to syn. oil, by redwater all the oil blew out of a small leak in the oil pan gasket.

I dunno this was about a year and a half ago that I read this! Don't know if this is still the case
oil filters only filter a portion of the oil in the first place
