wireless internet help
OK people...i dunno what the hell the deal is here.
Just got shaw cable tv/internet today.
This computer is connected to the router, and the router to the modem. This pc is getting a 192 address...and all is peachy.
The wireless on the machine downstairs on the other hand, fully see's hte network, but cannot get an IP address from it.
There's no security currenlty enabled, i've reset the router to defaults just to be on the safe side. it's a linksys bewfsomething version 2.
The card on the computer is a dlink usb card, i reinstalled it to be on the safe side. There's nos ecurity options set on it currenlty.
Apart from making sure there's no security options set on the router, and that wireless is enabled and SSID's match (obviously they do, it's set to broadcast, so nothing was manually set) what the hell else could be causing me not to get an IP address from the router???

what i tried last night or this morning was.....yeah making sure i didn't have any mysterious firewalls (don't usually run one, always had the router), no windows firewall...but i turned off even a hope of it running....even put in some security settings ont he router, and then on the PC down stairs...it still connected to the network, got an IP, but couldn't do any more
couldn't even ping the router

i think it was either the linksys vs dlink issue, or possibly the fact that the card is g and the router b technology...granted it should be backward compatible.
None the less, hooked up a dlink router...fired up like magic....setup some security...golden
