Question About Inverting
Question About Inverting
hey all,
i have two XS-L103P5B sony 10" xplods inverted into a bassworx dual ten dual ported box. they are being powered by two kenwood KAC-8152D 1100W mono amps.
ive always heard that you need to either reverse the polarity or turn on the phase control (180degrees)
now i have had them inverted for a long time now, and i pound the living daylights outta them daily, without phase on or polarity switched, and they seem fine. they actually seem to be louder and crisper then when they were set normally. (so right now they are firing INTO the box and out the ports)
just wondering what your thoughts on this are? potential problems (ive had none so far), questions??. why dont people do this??? is there a reason why you are supposed to switch polarity (other than obviously on a seal box because the air has nowhere to go, but what about a ported box?)

I thought that when you had one sub in inverted and one in the box normal that you reversed the polarity on one of the two. I ran a sub inverted for a while and I think that I tried it both ways and ran it however it sounded best for me.
play around with the polarity and if it pounds in a certain configuration then thats what's important. Inverting your driver is either to show off the guts of the driver and or to get more airspace for the enclosure to get the right tuning that your after. Sealed or ported u can invert your driver and the enclosure is still its enclosure, not because the air has nowhere to go in sealed configuration.

BAHAHA..I got lucky, my Pioneer head unit has RCA outs for that kind of thing, so I can set my subs to Off, Normal or Rev (inverse) without ever moving my ***
. Thanks to that, I've also discovered that having them in Rev produces greater output from my subs. It's convenient to be able to play with that kind of thing from the head unit instead of having to get out and re-wire crap.

My subs sound better that way as well, but I don't think it increases power in any way, I believe it knocks the sub "out of phase" with the bass from the rest of the system to prevent cancellation.
