Dude at future shop freaks out at me...
So a 20 Year Car Audio installed kinda got pissed at me the other day, I was inside looking at there speakers and whatnot (Same ol' stuff), And he asked me what I had my my car, I told him Morel Tempo's. He said he had never heard of them, so I some come out side and I'll show you.
I turned up the stereo and he said yeah they sound pretty good, I told him how much I payed for them and then he said "Are these amped?" And I said no not yet.
This is when he got kinda upset, He said that he couldn't believe I haven't blown these yet because they are 130watts RMS. He said usually if something needs that much power and the deck only pushes like 15watts RMS per channel then my HU & Speakers will fry. And he said YOU DON'T have to push them to blow if they are not amped, They might just blow because they're not getting enough power.
Honestly I have never heard of such a thing, Unless you crank the outa' your speakers into distortion, How would they blow? I've read many articles that you will most likely NOT blow your speakers from underpowering them, It's because people push them TOO HARD with less wattage.
I can turn up my speakers pretty loud, And I haven't pushed them to distortion and I don't plan on doing so, They are not amped yet so there's no way I am going to push these to the max. I can turn them up loud enough right off the deck for now, But I know an amp will make them sound a lot better + more gain.
So guys, Is this FS guy crazy? He did some installs for me before and I never had a problem, he said he's been into Car Audio for around 20 years.

He's made a common mistake regarding power. Low power can not blow your speaker, otherwise everytime you turn your volume down you'd essentially be underpowering them and eventually blowing them. As you stated, he's trying to say that typically most people with underpowered speakers tend to try to turn it up louder than it should be and this causes the small amp to clip and distort badly...which can lead to speaker damage and failure in some speakers. As long as you treat your volume control with respect you'll be fine.

There's no way I want to push them into clipping or distortion. And when I told him I don't crank it because I don't want to damage them; he said "Oh they could blow anyways because they are underpowered". I immediately thought there's no way I could blow these unless I push them to hell and back with my HU.
Surprisingly enough, I can turn them up pretty loud and I don't hear any problems...But I read somewhere a long time ago that the human ear cannot hear distortion until it is at 17% lol, That might be total BS I'm not sure.

couldnt be said any better.
I went into the Mobile Audio section and listened to all the speakers on the wall, and the Tempo's blew everything away even for being un-amped.
