PS: Before anyone gets offended and thinks I mean the Z1 is ONLY usable for SPL... yes, I realize that people have ran them daily and they work fine. I mean that it was made to do extremely well in Street dB drag, not necessarily that is the only thing it will do.

Correct, the Z1 is no longer produced or supported by DD per my understanding.

The Z1a is a massive powerhouse @ 5kw of rated power. It would be pretty hard to compare to anything I make as my largest amp is a 3kw.

let's do another comparison of 2 of your 3000's strapped against one DD z1a. and remember, all your complaints about power, (coming from someone that works in the industry) 99% of our customers have inadequate power so test these amps with one battery and if you want mulitple runs of wire eventho most don't have that much wire in their car.

ps. hope this thread never dies

I certainly hope your shop wouldn't install a 6kw system with just one battery. All of my authorized USA dealers that have installed 3000Ds have done a proper job of installing an adequate electrical setup for their customers to ensure that the customer gets all of the power they paid for and has the highest level of long term reliability. It's in my brochure and on my web-site that I recommend upgrades for that amount of power.

Even with a massive 100 AH battery two 3000Ds could drain it's full capacity in 10 minutes (anything producing 6kw would do so). Even with a typical alternator trying to help charge that would barely extend the time due to the current draw of the car itself... eventually you would just end up with a dead battery after driving around and never quite getting a full charge from the overloaded alternator. So... I certainly hope you wouldn't argue that it's okay to run a 6kw system of a stock-like electrical setup on a day-to-day basis.

Anyhow... I've spent enough money for the time being shipping the two 1500Ds to Jordy. If I can find a Z1A here I'll test vs. two 3000Ds. The 3000D actually does pretty well for street on a one battery burp (totally different from doing it daily). Or, later on down the line, I may ship 3000Ds out to someone trustworthy to do the test. Quite simply, I'm not shipping expensive amps to just anyone either.

Seems to me that maybe someone should test the 3000d against the Z1 (not Z1a) in street class burp setup.
Although you don't really see the true strength of the Z1 (efficiency) until you have multiple strapped amps per battery. One amp vs one amp (or 2 vs 1) is fine and dandy, but I think a multi amp/strapped test would be the best point of comparison.
Several amps are louder than the Z1 when going with 1 amp per battery, but we've seen more than one person claim that that can radically change when you go 2 or even 4 amps per good battery (and we all know the potential WR holders will very likely be doing just that).

Just my $0.02.

Indeed, the Z1 is great for that type install... I looked again at the inside of it and they are using *eight* transformers rather than 6 as I thought I recalled. Certainly would help instantaneous efficiency with highly sagging voltage!

I'm not sure if I know anyone with a Z1... but I'll look around. Although, I still wouldn't think that the 3000D will beat it outright, especially not on one battery, due to the design of the Z1 and it's aptitude for low current supply situations.

You may find, though, that the Z1 will not hold out at a dollar per watt ratio as I am fairly certain it is substantially more expensive than a 3000D -- although, I can't seem to find exact pricing on it. My impression based on what I can find is that they sell, even used, for near the MSRP of the 3000D.

I believe Z1s were being sold up here for ~ $1800Cdn.
Not cheap, but worth the $$ for a serious street-class competitor, even with all the super batteries out there now to help less efficient amps make big power.

Can this thread be closed yet, I'm sick of reading about people trashing Sundown.
