I get that all the time. The WORST is when there is a rumbly background noise, say a running truck, or a compressor running in the background. I simply cannot hear over that 'background" noise. In an extremely quiet environment (rare) my hearing seems to improve.

Wait til people ask "why are you yelling?" Pretty well known fact most people who are hard of hearing assume everyone else is too & talk loud (as I do).

I suppose a hearing aid is in the cards one day, but then I would be able to hear the ex wife......hmmm......no rush.
