when i put it to voice coil 1 its as if i haven't connected anything. voice coil 2 reads 4.0. does that mean that the first coil isn't connected?

If you are checking this with a DMM set to ohms yes... you should see the same reading (or close to it) from both coils if you only get a reading from one coil then yes, its smoked....

Is it single or dual vc? if resting only one coil reads 4 ohms then something is wrong... they should both read similar on dvc...

One might suggest actually sitting down for a minute, forming your thought and making a cohesive post explaining what your issue actually is and what steps you have taken so someone can actually advise you; Five word posts really aren't helping your cause..

Not to be a dick, but spppppit it out Junior.

As was already mentioned DVC subs should give you a similar reading on each set of tinsels while the sub is disconnected and not moving, within about .2 or so, if that is not the case something is awry.

DVC...Coil 2 resting read 4 ohms, coil 1 resting reads 0 ohms unless you push up on the bottom of the sub, than it reads 4.2.

If I'm putting together what you are saying it sounds like one or both your leads on coil 1 are loose and connect only when the sub excurts.

Are you testing the wires themself or the connectors? I had a bad connection on one of my subs one time, and the problem wasn't that the lead was loose from the sub itself but had come loose from the connector plate.
