Line output level 2.5V vs 5V question from a newb

I agree its only gonna work in theory... Cause that person is more then likely to just turn up the amp and make it louder and still clip.

Basically the higher voltage allows the amp to work less to achive the same volume, but if the amp is being overdriven into clipping, the amp could be turned down and get full range without the clipping making the sq better

Ok, lets see if this makes sense on why more volts


Think of a person at a mic... the person at the mic wispers. the sound tech turns up the amplifier and amplifies the sound to 120 db.

If the person talks into the mic, the sound tech would have to amlipfy the sound less to achieve the same final 120 db using less power,


the voltage of the signal is exactly like the strength of the persons voice.

You set the amp gain to match the voltage of the deck. The only advantage to higher voltage out of the deck is it is less prone to picking up noise. The amp won't play any louder or cleaner, just less chance of noise. Considering most noise in a system is ground related rather than radiated, it's pretty much a non-issue.
