putting in subs with stock monsoon system

So i went to a stereo shop and was told it would be 400 or more dollars to install a deck and subs in my 2000 Sunfire GT, because of the monsoon system in my car.
From reading post i see that its possible to install a new deck if i get a new harness, but my question is,
Can i install subs and an amp in my car through the back speakers? is that the easiest way to get subs in my car?

i was told by a friend that i could and all i needed was like a converter or something along those lines?
any comments would be a big help, thanks.

Ya you can do it that way or get a amp that has a high level in(4 wire plug) as well as low level (rca's) and it should work just fine 4 you
