Unhappy sub cuts out

i recently bought an alpine mrpm450 to power my 8 in kicker l5 wired up at 2 ohms, my problem is that at no specific time my sub will cut out. my amp light stays on but the sub will stop for an unpredictable amount of time, sometimes a second, sometimes closer to 5 seconds. what could be the problem? it is only my sub that does this, my speakers powered by a seperate amp never do

check the tinsel leads to the voice coil. they have a history of breaking but not all the way causing them to cut out for seemingly no reason at all.
