20 yrs later-What to keep??
Hi Guys
My first post and I have not installed since my 1985 chevy Vandura days.I donnot remember everything but here is what I remember and wondering what is still usable(all is packed away so I will have to look it over)
-Alpine pullout CD head unit(this was the last one produced with no power out-...pre only in the early1990 era)
-Alpine 3545 amp and a small 4ch alpine from this era(not sure the model)
-Coustic xm7 crossover
-Soundstream SS-12 subs(I am sure all these speakers are dried out)
-Kicker C15 subs
-Pyle pro 8,6.5,4"
I will add more when I look at this gear but if there is some must keepers here,I would love your opinion.
I use to use the 3545 for all my mid bass, mid, high only as I found that my old Rockford Punch75(sold it) was better on subs.
I am getting a new 2011 Chevy Malibu and figured I would give it a little better sound system.
I have all my power cable and fuses.
thanks

i wouldnt personally keep any of it for 2011 vehicle.
Go new for sure. 20 years is a lot for any speaker or piece of electronics to endure... not that they cant make it that long but i'd highly suggest in going new for a virtually brand new car. just doesnt make any sense to put it in unless you have absolutely no budget for a new system. even then paying to get it installed will still cost a fair bit.
none of your equipment will in my opinion be much of a superior upgrade from the newer stock systems as stock 2011-2012 stereos have gotten much improved

Your SS12s are probably ok as they had a butyl surround if I remember correctly. The rest are likely done.
The 3545 is a cool piece of history. Use it if you like but for under about 4hun you can get a 6channel for your top end, avoid passive crossovers, and have a more adjustable and likely better sounding system.
The XM-7 is a great crossover. If time has not wiped it out it is useful for a multichannel amp system. If you keep the 3545 and go with passives, I'm sure it will be easy to sell. I'd even be interested
Overall I agree with the above though - I would probably get all new electronics and salvage maybe the SS12s only.

hi Paul
I think my old alpine cd was the 7909,last of the mohicans.I was going to use some of my DIY drivers(SS9700 tweeters,ATC mids,Volt midbass).
I was looking at some Orion gear...HCCA 2100,2500.1,D5000 and 152 subs.
I am buying the two 2100's for sure but have no idea about the other pieces. All 2010 models(never installed). You ever heard the newer gear Paul.??
thanks john

Personally I would sell the 7909, but that's just me - I hated mine.
The newer Orion stuff is as solid as the stuff from back in the day. If they would fit where the amps are going in my car I would have the new XTR amps in there for sure.

The alpine is 7915..If it doesnt workout,I will have to look for a new head unit for a 2011 Malibu and wouldn't even know where to start. It must have top SQ and prefer no power, just pre-outs.
Any idea's?
