If there was an instance of airbags not going off it was because the installer was a dumbass and forgot to re-engage the airbag when he put everything back together. Or maybe he spliced into the wrong wires. Several people in the J-body community have gotten into accidents with this install and their airbags worked just fine. Come look at the airbag light flashing 7 times when I start my car, even with the stock deck relocated to my closet! 7 flashes means everything is A OK.
Upper model GM vehicles do run some info through the deck (not sure what info), but the Jbodies DO NOT!
Show me some damn proof that the airbags are routed through the radio. Schematics for example! Good luck cuz you will never find ANY PROOF WHATSOEVER!! Most GM technicians don't know **** about each individual car. They likely think that all the GMs that have the RDS radio are the same. But I can guarentee you they ARE NOT!
I have proof that my car runs just fine and have thousands of fellow j-body owners with the install that would agree. Go to a high-end shop and ask them if they will do the install. They will say yes because they know the rumours are BS. In fact, Auto Sound Design told me they do this install ALL THE TIME!
K, I'm done yelling lol
But to those of you who don't know what you are talking about, SHUT UP! lol cuz you are only adding to this stupid rumour!

You have proof that this works ? How about I give you $20.00 (cause that is all those cars are worth) and go run it into a wall and tell me if your airbag slaps you in the face.
I really couldn't give a rats *** whether you choose to buy the harness or not.
Just remember this conversation when your head is up your *** while going through your windshield
I personally, and well my entire company has enough proof (supplied by GM) to realize that we are not going to embark down a road that would result in paying our legal department huge amounts of money fighting a lawsuit cause we disabled a person's airbag.
Have fun with your Tracker harness's and enjoy life in your budget car.
Have a nice day

</font>
You believe everything Future Shop tells you?
And I'm sorry you look down on my 2000 Z24, but I am very happy with it for now. Maybe one day I will be able to afford a car good enough for you.
And I'm still waiting for your so called proof.
This rumour is complete BS and I truly don't mean to fight. I apologize if it seems that way. So let's forget about it and be friends
Welp I finally decided to install the radio myself without that stupid harness, everything worked fine of course I lost the chimes but who cares, took the car into the shop to have them put the computer on it just to see if there where any codes that went off and everything came out fine.... Soo glad I didn't waste 185$ to keep my door chimes....
if the cav has now changed over to the new gm system, your gonna have problems unless you use a good re-locator kit, sound gate makes all the adaptors for all the new cars, and you dont want mess around with the intergrated ecu, you can get an idea from whats happening with the escalade ext from performance auto sound (a great canadian mag ) and youll see that you could have big problems! they had to install a cheap speaker in the dash for chimes and the On*Star system and the soundgate re-locator kit and they still have days where the system wont work! i dont think that a cav is as advenced as an escalade, but, well, i wouldn't chance a new car with a $20 adaptor, Good Luck! keep us posted

Welp I waited almost a month trying to figure out what I wanted to do, and asked a bunch of people what I should do, and it was pretty much a mixed reaction, like I said I called Gm and they would know best then anyone else and they said there shouldn't be any problems cause the cavalier isn't anything sophisticated if it was an Alero, Impala etc then yes there is alot more stuff wired into the radio, but all that aside I decided to do it anyway without the harness and everything was fine, so matter of preference on what you want to do.
