I've done a lot of reading on the net, and it looks like the hate for Sony is mutually shared. Most people seem to complain about reliability. So i need another amp now.

I see a lot of old school Alpine V12s, are they any good?

Is there a site that benchmarks these amps?

Also is the Alpine MRP-F450 any good?

If you were to rate, Alpine, Kicker, MTX, Rockford Fosgate, How would you order them from best SQ to worst.

In my opinion, Alpine makes probably one of the most solid amps there is. I never hesitate to use one.

But I also know where you're coming from. Some things I do have to order from the states, because I find it is good bang for the buck. However, I wouldn't order anything expensive, or important to my system for that matter.
The only thing that I've bought online is my sub amp. It does exactly what I want it to do, and was a lot cheaper than Alpine etc.

But I recommend making the 30KM trip to the store. After all, that's only about a 20 minute drive either way.

finally something we can agree on.
So i think i'm gonna go for the MRP-F550 , after ship+tax comes to about $260

By the way, the only reason i havent gone to shamuz yet is cos of the lousy weather. There is a snow hill 4ft tall on my drive way right now.

when it all boils down to it - it's what's in YOUR budget and what YOU want to do with YOUR car. Don't get me wrong - the advise on these boards are great, and have helped me tremendously.

But in all honesty - I'm not going to compete in any competition, so why should I buy high-end gear? I obviously want the best - but cant afford it. So I simply do the next best thing that can support my budget.

it's really hard to "test" anything in the store racks. 16 door speakers built into a box, 8 different subs in the same box, ect. If you're going to make a trip to get some ideas, then make it a trip to the nearest soundoff or car show. Meet people and ask questions. I learned more from the few hours I've spent talking shop with others than I ever did talking to salesmen or online reviews.
