Never run a crossover without having done the math....an 8 ohm speake in a 4 ohm crossove will present a dead short at some frequencies.

What kind of sound are you looking for for 600 bux?.
Kinda hard to get real impressed about a $600 set of comps running off a deck.
Perhaps a split of funds for a good set of comps around $400 (without the external x-over thingy), and a $200 amp would allow you to maintain your 6x9's (why you care about that with a $600 front end to enjoy, I dunno).

What kind of car is this going in Bryan?

Its a Mazda Mx6 (second gen) and i will NEVER power my speakers off a deck (please do not flame) its just not me. but yeah i plan on running 2 alpine amps with the respective amp links. also when i remove my intereor once agian im brown breading the whole car, even though its a pretty solid sounding car as-is, i understand its ALOT of extra pounds, but i hope to ballance my cars sound/apearence out with a fully build low compression KLZE with a healthy 10psi-15psi though a FMIC, i am much more of a performance guy than this car audio stuff, but i must say i am enjoying my stay here with you guys, learning new stuff every day, thanks guys.

wow really a 8 ohm speaker will represent a short to a 4 ohm crossover
so what happens does the crossover blow up or does the speaker seize

Not flaming at all.....well maybe injecting a bit of humour into an otherwise dull subject (math).

If the impedence rises towards infinity (open voice coil) in a 12 db/oct x-over, then the coil-cap combination will have an impedence equally approching zero at the x-over point....it's relatively simple math pinhead....if the impedence is reduced, the amp will produce more power, and the weakest link will melt. Maybe the amp, x-over, or transducer.....whatever is weakest will give up first.

12 dB passives have that danger....if a tweeter blows....the amp sees a short.....a good amp will take it....the others get replaced.

If you plan on blowing tweeters up its safer to have a passive inbetween the amp and the speaker....

If you shorted the tweeter the cap inline will probably blow before the amp does and you will almost always end up with an open circuit...

An 8ohm speaker on a crossover intended for a 4ohm speaker will result a crossover point one octave below the intended point...
