charlie you maybe right
as they say you never know everything were always learning
i personally have never seen it happen i kid you not
and also have never heard of it
the way i was looking at it was that because a cap is like a transformer the amplifier dosn't really see the speaker
and also i was always under the impression that when crossing over in the tweeter range that you could and i have
add mutiple tweeters onto the amp without it freaking out
p.s. i am going to try it as soon as i get a break from all those starters

No kidding about the learming curve...I picked up a bunch of things reading through a pile of crossover articles looking for that.
I have seen a few coils melted over the years, especially back when I sold Altec. I fact I used to replace the nice looking passives that came with the comps, with Solens coils and poly caps, in an ugly bomb, 'cause I thought the heavier guage air cores would handle more and saturate less.
Now I think all those coils melted after the tweeters blew ( which they did on a regular basis).

There's a couple of mentions about the natural rising impedance of the drivers, and the use of Zobel network to correct the issue, but how is the average guy to know what that rise is, without the tools of the NRC....Makes my brain spin.

Still say go active and tune it by ear, get the best path lengths you can, and call it a day...
