ya thats why im so skepitcal when meeting up with guys trying to sell me their subs esp. those who dont have it hooked up and are not able to test it out for me at all. I was told a long time ago that there is a technique that you can use to check to see if a sub is blown or semi blown. I was told that you push down near the outer part of the sub about half an inch and if you hear scraping or crunching or friction then the sub is no good. I tried to test this technique out wit a guy that was selling me his w6s and he didnt let me do it and said that it would hurt the sub. That made me even more skeptical. Cuz now im thinking maybe he doesnt want me to hear the friction or maybe he is telling the truth that it would hurt the sub, i dunno. But yea,. buying used subs/amps, is risky business always.
When YOU were doing it, you pushed on a angle, Big no no...Then you did it anyways. Biggest downfall, cone scraping!! How do I know, it was me, and it was my house you were at, you wanna hear them they are in a box and amped now..regardless subs are warrantied and such

well yeah, I mean I picked up on its implied meaning, but I was just wondering what the acronym stood for. I just figured saying SQ/SPL worked, but thats just me I guess

Right box and you'll be happy.
The JL W7 is so over priced for what you get.

i use to have 2 12inch JL w0s in my talon which is almost the same design as the celica. i went thru 6 alternators a dozen alt.belts it was a nightmare. i dont want that to happen again so i will be investing in a 180-200amp alternator and a yellow top optima battery for the car to run off of and also possible a smaller battery for the system to run off of. i think that should be enough. secondly, its obvious that i must by another amp and high/mid/tweets for the front end thats for sure.
for all those who read this. i am interested in buying / setting up a system, so if u guys got stuff for sale that would be of use to me let me know.
so yea, w6s vs w7s big difference? would u say 2 w6s = 1 w7?

All the advice you got is excellent, and I encourage you to look into all that, but at risk of sounding arrogant, I will just put this out there. When you are done and ready to become the real baller and king of streets with savage raw lung collapsing bass which is crystal clear I can hook you up with mint, and when I say mint people on here who dealt with me know this, I mean as new gear. You get this combo and be done with it. I have a 15" SSA Xcon sub on Sundown Audio SAE1200, which is a perfect match for this sub with 1500+ watts rms on tap, and is super efficient so that you wont need to go into all that second battery non-sense. The sub is also very efficient and with the right box it has potential to shake your car into pieces if need be. You get this and be done with your bass requirements. You can PM me after you're done researching other stuff, until then you wont know what you are looking at. And the price you can get this for will knock your socks off for what you're getting. And watch your W7's buddy retreat into safety in shame.
