hi guys! i have a little problem and a couple questions. i have this graphic eq.:

its an older model pioneer and very hard to find except for this one i found, even pioneer doesnt list it on their "older models" page but i love how it looks when its hooked up, although you can only change the color to orange or green. and if you look at the pics on the link you can see "a set of front and rear outputs" along with a set of female connectors for the "input" i assume.

the deck i have is also an older model "DEH-P6000" :

and it has only 2 Preouts. No sub preout. "only a front and a rear"

now in my hatchback i have 3 amps. 2 JL's which are piggybacked to each other with a short set of rca's. and 1 4-channel amp for my front door speakers and rear speakers in the back seat. i only need one set of rca's to go to the JL's from the deck. and another long set to my 4 channel amp in the hatchback. i have nothing connected to the stereo harness wires. now here are my questions:

1. When installing the eq, i want to make sure i have all the rca's hooked up correctly. and my luck i lost the manual. now which do i connect TO the eq from the deck?? do i connect the "front" preout from the deck or the "rear" preout from the deck? i want to use the rear preout for my JL's and my front preout for the 4 channel, even though rear speakers will be on the 4 channel amp.

2.Now if i use, say for example, the front preout TO the eq, do i just hook up the rca's for the JL's on the "rear" preout on the deck, or must i put the jacks on the eq "rear output??

3.Since the deck has a built-in eq, do i just leave all of the decks settings to "zero" and only use the eq for the settings??

Wow, haven't seen one of those for a while.
Oldschool 9-band EQ and you're right it did look cool lit up.

If you're just running everything through your EQ then it doesn't matter which RCA outs you use from your deck.
I would run the front RCA from your deck into the EQ and hook it up to the front of the 4ch (running your front speakers) and the rear of the EQ to your sub amps. Then connect the rear RCA out from your deck to the rear of the 4ch (running rear speakers) that way you can have fader control of them.

 

Wow, brings back some memories.

If it was me, I would run the front out of your head unit into the EQ & the rear to your JL Audio amplifiers. This way, you could take BOTH the front & rear outputs from the EQ & run them to your 4-channel with fading capabilities.

The EQ-7000 has a built-in dual amp balancer which essentially takes a stereo output & turns it into BOTH front & rear stereo outputs.

This way, I think you get the best of everything as you can use all the "surround" features of the EQ & it will actually work!

thanks guys! but i see you both have a slightly different way of doing it. will both methods result in the same way?? if not, whats the differences??

see the one thing i DONT want is when i crank up the bass on the subs, that if the rear speakers are connected in anyway to the "rear" settings,like rear fading, that maybe they will distort a lot. do you think it would happen? or would i be all right?? i was thinking just putting ALL 4 speakers of the 4 channel amp, on the "front" and leave the "rear" entirely for bass. but then again, i want to get the best out of the EQ, so like you say Pioneer Guy I can have a surround effect. i dont know if i will get that if i only put all the speakers on the "front" . hope it doesnt sound confusing. thanks !!!
