this is just a general question, but do you have to mount x-overs for component speakers near the speaker? or can they go anywhere in the car? will it make any difference where you put them? thanks

Actually, the closer to the speakers the better. I once had mounted my X-overs next to my amp and at high listening levels the tweeter protection circuit would keep cutting in. Not sure why, just know it will happen. When moved closer to the components it never happened again. Something to think about.

Personally, I like to mount crossovers as close as posible to the drivers. The less distance a signal has to travel, the better.

I agree, you'll need more speaker wire if you mount them in the trunk. I haven't been able to tell any difference between mounting x-overs in the trunk or doors/front of car. Technically speaking, I suppose there will be a slightly higher resistance between the x-over and tweeter and x-over and woofer due to the longer length of the cable, but if you are using a decent awg, i dont see that being any issue at all.
