Yes it does. I suspect there may some sort of custom configuration here. I was certain this was the problem from the beginning but now I don't know.
The gain is used to match the amp with the signal. If the signal is low (like a lowlevel preamp signal off a factory deck put through a line level converter like a RE-Q) then the gains will have to be high. This isn't a problem, it is what the gain is for!
And I agree with the comment to cap the factory mids if they pop. A standard 200uf electrolytic cap should do.
