OP, there are no shops in Kingston that deal with anything other than retail junk. There is one place that does Eclipse, but as far as I know they can't get everything in their line. It's Auto Add-ons if my memory serves me correctly. Other than that, take the brands/suggestions that other members have posted and plan for a trip to Toronto or Ottawa to get some decent gear. Either that or check out the For Sale section here on the forums, or even eBay (I'm not a fan, but maybe you are?). I think you'll find that the best you will find locally will be the Alpine Type R's.

Just remember, you are on a forum that includes SQ and SPL competitors, not just everyday stereo lovers. You said you want quality, but I don't know how much exposure you've actually gotten to high level SQ or SPL. The Fi Q and ID Max are most likely subs you have never heard of, but they are high quality drivers. The setup you mentioned earlier is the GT5 package, which is the entry level sub from JBL. The above mentioned JBL GTi is the highest end of JBL's line.... So you can kind of put our views on quality into perspective. You've gotta pay to play. That being said, what is your budget for this build? I understand you want something that is high quality, so are you referring to build quality? Loudness (SPL)? Sound quality (SQ, if you didn't guess already lol)? What are your goals, and how much coin are you willing to invest?

ok i see, i should do some more learning about subs and sound systems in cars. and i was hoping to put around $1000 max.
and does that mean that a 10'' 2000wat RMS better than 2 12'' 550Watt RMS??
like this one?
Car audio - Kingston Cars & Vehicles For Sale - Kijiji Kingston

There is much more cone area involved in 2 12"... A speaker's job is to move air, obviously 2 12's can move more air than a single 10. Box design, power, the car, the song/tone, the sub design, and a myriad of other things contribute to what setup works better than the other. That combination you found will work fine, yet so will a bunch of other combinations, that's what makes this hobby/addiction what it is. Alot of it comes down to what your preferences are and trial and error. Data sheets only tell one part of a story, same as box design programs. The only way to see if you are doing something to gain SPL is to mic it on a Termlab. If you're looking for SQ, there is no way of measuring sound quality... A human judge makes the decision. So in that case, unless you're looking to compete, try different things out that make you happy. Keep in mind, with around 2kwrms on tap, the electrical in your car is going to need an upgrade. We're talking Big 3, second battery, and possibly a larger alternator (forget the cap). With a 550wrms system, I'd still do the Big 3, but generally the car will handle that level of power, so now you tell me, which is better? A louder system that will cost more to set up, or a quieter system that requires less work?
