Unhappy My amp! What is wrong!? (Ultimate T3 1000D)

Alright, I spent all yestarday installing the wires and big 3 and all that good stuff for the amp and subs (still have to hide the rcas but other than that it is lookin really good ). I set the gains with a digital multi meter earlier today (They are actually set low because I set them for 1300 watts while I break in the subwoofer). I set them while using a 40 hz test tone and the volume at 3/4. Now, i listened to the subwoofer using test tones after I had the gains set and nothing bad happened. Then I popped in a regular cd and was listening to it at volume 20/40 and then I wanted to turn it up to 30/40 but as soon as I hit volume 29/40 the sub made a pop noise then stopped and the amp lights turned red which means it went into protect (to bad the lights aren't always red cuz even though the amp was screwing up it LOOKED KICK ***!!! ) As soon as I turn the volume back down to 20/40 the lights turn blue again and the subwoofer comes back on. Does anyone know what the problem is???

Thanks very much,
Lspade

P.S. Is it bad on the amp or sub if the protect light comes on? Cuz it happened twice. The first time my car was off and I though my voltage went to low for the amp and it went into protect but I turned the car on and it happened again.

your gain could be set to high and when you turn your system you the amp could be clipping and going into protect mode thats is prob the problem try turning your amp gain down just a little and then see whats a matter

I have 2 of these amps and ive yet to use them. Ive read some amazing reviews on them and some not so great (usually about them toasting.)

So im curious as to what people are really experiencing with them. Please keep us posted.

Also, i believe they have a super warranty.

when i googled about these amps, i read somewhere that they pop and or go into protect when supplying voltage drops.

Could this be the case?

voltage drops as in (for example) going from 14 volts down to 13.8 on certain beats? Because that is very possible.

i believe i read 11 volts. which seems unrealistic, i could see that occuring in many systems.

But need someone to chime in on these who have better experience.

Measure the resistance on the ground return. Where have you grounded to?

ok, i wasn't sure if voltage drop meant really low voltage or a voltage that jumps around. When the car is on I am reading 14.3 on my stinger volt meter.

I "think" my ground is good. It is on a big chunk of metal in the floor right behind the back seat (in a 94 blazer). Paint scraped away good and terminal bolted down tight.
