With todays vehicles being a blend of recyled metals, crappy spot welded panels and glued together unibody parts, current has one heck of a time flowing through it. As your current draw increases, so does the strain on the ground. If you have a bad ground, problems are going to manifest itself in the amp because of it.

I would also consider the source material being played. It is all fine to set the gains using a tone sweep for example, but when you start playing source materials that are recorded with a heavily saturated bass track that may have another 9db centered at 50hz, well the effects on the amp and ultimately the sub is going to be less than desireable.

that was a good read on the 12 volt very informative,it should be linked here

well if you have a long piece of 0 awg, you can run it to the battery and see what happens before you start installing another cable for ground.

I don't have a long enough piece of 0 gauge but I could bring my stock battery to the back of the car and hook it up right next the the amp so I don't have to worry about having long enough wire. That would work for a minute or two wouldn't it????

FFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUDDDDDDDDDDDD GGGGGGGGGGGEEEEEEEEEEEEESSSSSSSSSIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIII IIIICCCCCCCCCCCCCCKKKKKKKKKKKLLLLLLLLLLLLLEEEEEEEE EEEEESSSSSSSSSSSS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!

Well, earlier today I was pondering about this problem when I was putting in my seat and I thought, "hhhmmm, I had this same problem with my blaupunkt amp when I got two new subs that I thought were 8 ohm each. They played at low volumes but I turned it up and the fuses popped. It ended up that they were 4 ohms and my amp was not 2 ohm stable. Ya, so I thought possibly that when I sent my sub back they gave me a 2 ohm dvc instead of 4. I was heading to bed very angry cuz I don't know what the heck is going on and my sub package was laying there and I checked AND IT IS FRICKEN 2 ohms dvc!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! AHHH!!!!!!!!!!!! I just spent $42 to ship it back and get it replaced and they gave me the wrong fricken subwoofer!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! THOSE SON OF A ^&*(#!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! AHHHHHH I am sooo mad at this moment. I do have to admit that it feels good to have the problem solved.

SO! My question is, do you guys think I harmed the amp if I had a 1 ohm load on it? I sent it into protect mode 3 total times. Do you guys think that I did any damage to the amp???????

Lets hope that the protection circuits did their job. I was going to ask you to double check the load on the amp as well but wanted to wait until you knew what was going on with the ground.

You do not have to ground to a battery, only if the circumstances warrant so. Still take the time to ensure that you have a proper ground. Get the sub replaced in the mean time and retest the system again.

ahhh, why does the orion customer care have to suck soo bad. it took like a month to replace this woofer. I don't know how I am going to argue my way into getting a new one especially since they don't pay for shipping but I am not going to friggen pay for shipping again.

Who wants to join me in holding up the orion building ? I have about 13 different guns in the room next to me so don't be worried if you don't have one.

Orion has shitty customer service because they are now owned by DEI. Too bad you weren't around when a/d/s/t still owned them... quite a company

well, this is a f'ing punch in the face . I sent them an email and this is what I got in return:

"The 10.4 is not manufactured anymore. You would need to contact warranty as you did originally and see what they can do to get you into a sub that is compatible with your system. The phone number is 800-753-0800 and listen for the prompt for warranty. They are open Mon-Fri until 3:30 pm pacific time."

I was afraid of this because I noticed that cardomain does not sell the 4 ohm version anymore. HOLY CRAP what am I supposed to do now. .
